An uncontrolled rise in blood glucose levels is called diabetes. There are two common types of diabetes – type 1 and type 2. In addition, women develop a type of diabetes during pregnancy, which is called gestational diabetes.
It is important to check the blood glucose of the diabetic patient regularly. Because according to the level of blood glucose, food and lifestyle have to be changed. However, the exact rules for diabetes or blood glucose testing are unknown to many.
You may be surprised to know that many people make the mistake of measuring diabetes at home. Find out the common mistakes made when measuring blood glucose-
Using the old test strip
One of the biggest mistakes I make is using old test strips. Usually a small strip is given along with the glucometer. It is used to measure blood glucose. So many people use the strip without checking it.
As a result, it is not possible to accurately determine the amount of glucose in the blood. Such miscalculations can lead to many big dangers. So we should check the expiration date of the strip and then use it for measuring glucose.
Testing at the wrong time
It is not advisable to test for diabetes long before or long after eating. In most cases, many people get tested for diabetes right after a meal. However, this is not the right approach. According to experts, diabetes test should be done 2 hours after eating.
Many people have the habit of forgetting 3 days after measuring one day. One day it was measured at 7 in the morning and another day at 7 in the evening. If you do this irregularly, you will never be able to control your diabetes.
So we should measure diabetes at a certain time every day. As a result, it is possible to develop proper eating habits and controlled living habits.
Holding the strip with dirty hands
Many hold the strip with dirty hands. As a result it is not possible to verify the exact result from the strip on the glucometer. Therefore, hands should be thoroughly washed before taking the diabetes test strip.
Not using the correct testing kit
There are different types of diabetes testing kits available in the market. These are used to measure the blood glucose of different types of diabetic people based on the type of diabetes. So when buying a test kit to know the exact result, you must understand the condition of the patient and choose.
Regularly measuring blood glucose is very important in controlling diabetes. So we should all try to avoid the above mistakes while measuring blood glucose.
